Chapter 22: EXERCISES: POKER-O & FOX

EXERCISE: POKER-O

THE EXERCISE IS BASED on a predefined period of time in which the student obtains the best poker hand as possible. The students start with five cards in the hand and the task is to exchange their cards for better cards to get a good poker hand.

STUDENTS MOVE between the controls where they can change a card to another. At every control, the teacher has put out a card in a plastic bag. The students take the card from the plastic bag and replaces it with a card from the hand.

IT CAN BE TIME-LIMIT exercise for 10 minutes or 15 minutes; then implement it again with five new cards. The exercise can be carried out either individually, in pairs or teams.

EXERCISE: FOX

YOU CAN USE the same controls as in Poker O or any other exercise and implement the ”Fox” as an additional activity.

THE TEAcHER WALKS in a calm pace along the dashed line as a ”mobile control”. It is an advantage if you have access to, for example, EMIT or SPORTident but it works just as well without. The students punch by doing ”high five” with the teacher. The students run first to the nearest control, punch, then back again to the ”mobile control” (The Fox). Out again to next control and back to the ”Fox”.
